Teacher is the best EdTech

Any EdTech is as good as its use. Teachers and educators are central to EdTech’s impact.

Testbeds

For EdTech to determine its effectiveness, it needs to be tested in real classroom environments, which is where testbeds come in. Testbeds are incubators, accelerators, hubs, and colliders where EdTech providers collaborate with schools to evaluate EdTech solutions. This testing fosters innovation and allows teachers to provide insights into the design before it is scaled to larger classrooms.

The International Centre for EdTech Impact began as a think tank focused on children’s digital books, under the International Collective for Children’s Digital Books, a group of academics and teachers working closely with producers of digital books, literacy apps, and e-books. It later expanded to encompass all EdTech. Work with teachers is at the heart of what we do.

We are behind the world’s first Children’s Digital Book Award, the first EdTech award completely judged by teachers. Our researchers actively support testbeds in several locations and conduct co-design studies with teachers and children. Read our research for the latest updates. The philosophy of our approach is that the Research-Practice-Design triangle must always be in place with the child at the center for EdTech to have a positively impactful effect on children. This philosophy is captured in the field-defining paper by Kucirkova in 2016, guiding design-based research in EdTech for children.
