Laura Zimmermann

Child development specialist

Senior UX Researcher

Laura Zimmermann, Ph.D. is the founder and president of Tech Play Collaborative, a research firm that supports children’s media and education organizations at all stages of development. She is a recognized expert in child development and media having published articles in both lay and peer-reviewed journals.

Providing both formative and summative research, Dr. Zimmermann consults with organizations that are designing products and programs for children. She disseminates the latest edtech and early learning insights through publications and speaks internationally at professional conferences.

Dr. Zimmermann draws from her experiences in tech, children’s museums, and non-profit settings. In her prior work she led user experience research for Google (via Magnit), served as a research fellow at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, and was a leading researcher at SRI International. Dr. Zimmermann served a two year term with the Children’s Media Association as the Director of Operations for the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. Sitting at the intersection of edtech and child development she has been an Advisory Board member for small-scale start-ups to large companies creating apps, digital games, and animated television series. She was an Institute of Education Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Child’s Play, Learning, and Development Lab at the University of Delaware. She holds a PhD in Psychology from Georgetown University with a concentration in Human Development and Public Policy.
