In-kind impact work

By matching academics with the industry, we have developed a model where academics can contribute their expertise as part of their research contracts at universities. This occurs when there is a direct and precise alignment between the EdTech product/model and the academic's research area. For academics, it provides an opportunity to expand the impact of their work and apply their ideas in practice. For companies, it offers the chance to benefit from the latest scientific research. In these win-win situations, we act as matchmakers and facilitators. Our network includes over 850+ learning scientists, whom we regularly connect with relevant EdTech organizations to enhance mutual impact. We also work directly with universities to facilitate secondments and internships.

Our primary goal is to enhance the impact of educational technology to ensure a positive influence on children. This social mission drives both our pro-bono efforts and the contributions of learning scientists who volunteer their time for free or at significantly subsidized rates. We facilitate rapid matchmaking by leveraging our extensively mapped network of experts across various geographic regions and academic disciplines relevant to education and technology.

Philanthropic support

We gratefully acknowledge the support of funders who directly contribute to our efforts in assisting companies. These funders provide subsidies, sponsorships, grants, and payments for the researchers who collaborate with individual EdTech organizations to achieve their desired outcomes.

Direct support from companies

For some of our projects, we conduct research commissioned directly by EdTech companies. Commissioned research needs to be ethical, avoid conflict of interest and maintain the rigour of academic research.

When undertaking commissioned research, we follow three principles:

1, We do not conduct market research or research that seeks confirmatory evidence

2, We ask for companies’ commitment to publish open-access and all findings, including positive, neutral or negative findings

3, We pre-register empirical studies in Open Science repositories such as OSF
